Identity Collage As I started this project I wasn't really sure where I was going to go with it. I did however know that wherever I led myself with this that I would like the outcome no matter what. I knew for my background I wanted it plain so I could add whatever I wanted, so I chose white. I love flowers, and bouquets have always been a favorite of mine so I made sure to have some of that sort on my portrait. I like to think that inspiring words as a way of showing who you are and you're intentions so I also wanted to showcase that on my portrait as well. I soon realized when I started this project that I would have to take many different approaches to get everything how I wanted it. In the end I will say, I'm glad its different and more simple from others. I think my greatest challenge would defiantly be shaping my eyes and nose. Also trying to find shades to match my face were a little difficult. I think once I got the hang of it, it came together. Self portraits have a way of telling someone things about you. Almost like a way of how you see yourself. Its a way that others can see you, for you. Portraits can show more than pictures ever could. Its one of the best ways to express yourself artistically.
The Real Anatomy Of Technology |
|
With the Real Anatomy of Technology project we were asked to join together an organ with a piece of technology in any sort of way. Initially I had started out with the heart but ended up changing my mind and started over with the brain. I did a cellphone with headphones plugged in making their way to the brain. I chose this idea because I wanted to incorporate music somehow because music helps the brain engage. It is demonstrated by the music notes starting at the beginning of the brain and following the headphone cord to almost seem like they were being faded away into the phone jack.
I interviewed my mom, Stacy who is 40 years old. She had talked about how nobody really had cellphones when she was my age and that music was a big hit. She was taught how to live without a phone so she didn't need to rely on it one day. She also didn't care much that she didn't have a cellphone because she just wanted to be in the moment. Looking towards things now days, most kids have cellphones and will never really understand how to live without one. Technology is everywhere in our lives. It can be tools or-machines and can be used in many situations. It also can be taking for granted. I use my cellphone to talk to friends, check social media and for the alarm clock. Communication is very easy these days thanks to apps like snapchat, Instagram, facebook, and even just simple text messaging. The Value Of Words For this project we were asked to design a picture out of only words. The words on the picture needed to mean something relating to what was drawn. The main concept of the movie "Beauty And The Beast" was the power of love and kindness. That was my inspiration going into this project. The magic flower kept in the glass jar always stuck out to me. It showed that anything can happen with any amount of time. I chose that to be what I would draw so that I could capture that moment. The words I used were all quotes from the movie. Majority of them are love and kindness. When I started the project I had everything outlined so I could make sure it would be neat. After i had all my words on i sent back to erase. One of the main things I struggled with was the contrast.
Words on any drawing can really show the bigger picture. It can give some sort of insight others may not be able to tell. Every person will react differently with any piece of art. Descriptions are a great part of all art works. Any piece of art can tell a different story its just up to the viewer to truly understand where the artist is coming from. Art For Awareness This project we were given the freedom to use any material we desired and how we thought it would all fit together for this topic. The issue I focused on for this project is depression. Many children, teenagers, and adults face depression everyday. I wanted to show how most people who face depression put on a happy face so no one sees how bad they are hurting. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Having trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living is just a fraction of what people who struggle with depression go through. Depression is more than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply "snap out" of it. Depression can require long-term treatment.
Artist Toby Brown photographed famous sufferers of the condition, while they were explaining what it was like. Working from these haunting images, Toby created a series of portraits. He was my inspiration for this project. I started this project with a really open mind because there were so many important things I could have drawn and wrote about. I knew I wanted to include a face in some sort of way. Once I got down what I wanted to do I grabbed my sketchbook and started the outline of the face and body. I mainly used just a sketchbook paper and pencil. I then thought I could show how just because someone puts on a happy face does not mean they truly are. So that is where the double face came in. I later started to blend bits and parts together. And in the end it came together exactly how I had planned in my head. |
